Scott Christianson, Ph.D., will take on these and other issues, including a look at the inner workings of the notorious Sing Sing prison, site of more than 600 executions, at the 14th annual Schwarzschild Memorial Lecture, sponsored by the Connie Hogarth Center for Social Action and the Lower Hudson Valley Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union.

Author, scholar, journalist and human rights activist, Dr. Christianson has devoted his life to the study of crime and punishment, prisons and the death penalty. He has directed research projects and taught at Union College, R.P.I., and Bard College, and lectured at Harvard, Princeton, and Georgetown. Dr. Christianson has also held several prominent positions in the New York State criminal justice system. His writings include, Innocent: Inside Wrongful Conviction Cases, which helped several innocent prisoners win their release, and Condemned: Inside the Sing Sing Death House.
Dr. Christianson’s work inspired acclaimed stage performer Goldee Greene’s new musical drama,Sugarwoman, about Helen Fowler, executed at Sing Sing in 1944. Ms. Greene will perform an excerpt from the play.
