Friends of White Plains Hospital to Honor Mariano and Clara Rivera

Annual Gala to Take Place Sat., Nov. 7th at the Brae Burn Country Club, Purchase

The Friends of White Plains Hospital plan to honor MLB all-star Mariano Rivera and his wife, Clara at their annual Gala on Saturday, November 7th at the Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, NY.

The “greatest closer” ever to play the game, Mariano Rivera, a five-time World Series Champion, received numerous awards including the 1999 World Series MVP and Major League Baseball’s all-time leader in saves (652). He retired in 2013, having played more than 17 seasons with the Yankees.

Mr. and Mrs. Rivera will be presented with the Hospital’s inaugural Community Heroes Award at the event, in recognition of their extensive and dedicated efforts to improve the health and lives of the underserved in Westchester County.

As a family committed to their faith, Clara and Mariano, in 2009, along with several dozen spiritual individuals, established the Refuge of Hope Church in their home. They expanded into a renovated church in New Rochelle five years later, and Clara serves as the Church’s Senior Pastor. They currently have plans to start an after school program there for at-risk children and adolescents.

Through the Refuge of Hope, The Rivera Foundation and the family’s community activities, Clara and Mariano invest their personal time and talent to motivate members of the community to love, care for and uplift those in need through hope and service. White Plains Hospital partnered with the Refuge of Hope recently to provide health education, screenings and other valuable information at a community health fair in New Rochelle.
