Gilda’s Club Westchester Announces Two New Programs

"Living with Cancer Support Group" and a Special One-Night Workshop on Grief and Parenting

White Plains, NY— In its efforts to continue to meet the growing needs of people who are impacted by cancer in our community, Gilda’s Club Westchester is offering two new programs.

Living with Cancer Support Group

Through a partnership with Bedford Playhouse, Gilda’s Club Westchester is expanding their reach and offering a free ongoing “Living with Cancer Support Group” at the Bedford Playhouse Greenroom the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.

The group will begin Wednesday, April 3, 2019, from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. This support group will encourage discussion of personal experiences as well as provide ongoing exploration of emotional and social concerns, while dispensing personal wisdom and practical advice. Special Bereavement and Parenting Workshop at Gilda’s Club Westchester

On April 22, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Gilda’s Club Westchester will host a free workshop for parents who have lost a partner to cancer and struggle with experiencing loss as they continue their role as a sole parent.

Dr. Justin Yopp and Dr. Donald Rosenstein, authors of The Group: Seven Widowed Fathers Reimagine Life and co-founders of The Widowed Parent Project (www.widowedparent.org) will communicate strategies for coping through compelling narratives of the seven widowers documented in their book The Group. Furthermore Yopp and Rosenstein will share their own experiences in supporting widowed fathers and mothers and provide additional methods for coping with loss of any kind. Gilda’s Club Westchester is partnering with the Bereavement Center of Westchester for this very important workshop.

Children of attendees are invited to participate in a concurrent social program facilitated by Gilda’s Club Westchester’s Children Teens and Families Manager. Light refreshments will be served.
