Hommy Almonte on Tips for Golfing in the Winter in White Plains
How can you keep up with your golfing in the winter?

Winter in White Plains, NY unofficially starts at the beginning of December and lasts until mid-March. For the avid golfers out there, this season can feel like an eternity. Fortunately, though, you can still get out on the course and play a great game, even when it’s cold. Here are some tips for golfing in the wintertime.
Don’t stand still for long
When you’re golfing in the cold, it’s essential that you keep moving to keep yourself warm and play your best game. Instead of opting for a cart or buggy, walk the course. It’s a great way to sneak in a little extra exercise anyway.

Play with two balls
Cold golf balls don’t go as far as warm ones. You aren’t allowed to artificially heat the balls, but one way to deal with this is to use two golf balls and alternate using them on different courses. When one isn’t in use, keep it in your pocket. That way the balls stay somewhat warm and you don’t break any rules.

Use more club
Another way to be more successful at golf in the winter is to use more club. Consider using one to two clubs more than your usual, so for example, you might use a 5 iron instead of a 7 iron. Again, this tip is based on the fact that your ball won’t travel as far in the cold. Using more iron will help you get to the hole in fewer strokes.
Dress in the proper gear
When you golf in the winter in New York, you need to dress for it. Wear gloves that are made for golf, so that your hands stay dry and warm. Also, bring along a warm winter hat to keep your head nice and comfortable. For your body, it’s usually best to dress in layers. Depending on the temperature, you may want to choose thermal underwear and a thermal t-shirt. Remember, while it’s important to keep warm, try to avoid overdressing.
Drink plenty of water
In the summer, we all have hydration on the front of our minds, so we drink plenty of water throughout the day. In the winter, however, we are usually more focused on keeping warm, so we opt for hots beverages like coffee and hot chocolate. Unfortunately, these comfort drinks aren’t as hydrating, so many of us end up dehydrated on the golf course. Your body needs water just as much when it’s cold, so don’t forget to drink plenty of it, even if you would prefer something warmer.
