Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester Hosts Children's Bereavement Support Group Program

WHAT: Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester (HPCW) invites children, youth, teens and young adults who have lost a loved one, as well as their caregivers, to attend a new, open-ended bereavement support group hosted by HPCW’s Comfort Crew Pediatric Palliative Care Program. The group will meet twice a month on Wednesdays from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at HPCW’s offices in White Plains. The evening will include pizza, age-grouped activities and a closing circle. There is no charge for the program and it is open to the community.

In the children’s group, all participants will join peers in their age-group for activities that are warm, safe, fun, and comfortable and will be surrounded by others who have experienced a loss. Participants learn and grow through play and address their grief, questions and healing through activities that normalize their loss experiences. The groups are led by seasoned clinical supervisors and trained volunteer facilitators and the ratio is at least one facilitator to every three children. Caregiver support groups are loss specific (spouse, child, parent) and facilitated by experienced clinicians.
