June Jazz Another Crowd Pleaser
Third Annual June Jazz Event at the Woman's Club was a fundraiser for the Club
The Garden Committee of the Woman’s Club of White Plains held its third June Jazz for the Gardens on June 8. Glenda Davenport and the Hiroshi Yamazaki trio returned to the club to rave reviews, performing well-known songs from the American songbook. Many of the 80+ guests in attendance listened to the musicians playing in the living room while others took advantage of the weather and enjoyed the music outside in the gardens.
Hot and cold appetizers were provided by Caperberry Events and guests also enjoyed a specialty drink, Jazz on the Rocks. Cathy’s Biscotti generously donated a variety of gourmet biscotti, a sweet treat to complete the night. Prizes for the raffles were donated by various club members and included floral arrangements, gardening equipment and wine baskets.
This annual event is a fundraiser for the Woman’s Club, part of whose mission is to maintain and restore the historic CV Rich Mansion and the lovely surrounding gardens. The CV Rich Mansion which has been the home of the Woman’s Club since 1930 was built in 1911 and has lovely grounds as well as terraced gardens in back. Proceeds from this year’s event will fund projects such the completion of a sprinkler system, upgrades to the shrubbery on the perimeter of the property and a trellis on the ballroom wall.

The Club celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016 and hopes to continue the momentum and enthusiasm generated last year. Already this year, the Club has sponsored fundraisers for Gail’s House at the Pace Women’s Justice Center and the scholarship program for White Plains high school students as well as participating in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and has cooked meals for Lifting Westchester. The Woman’s Club also co-runs the Thrift Shop at the Presbyterian Church on Barker Avenue. All its proceeds go to charity. The next big event is Corks and Forks, a food and wine tasting affair, which will be held September 15, 2017 benefitting NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
