Latimer Visits TSA Workers At County Airport
The federal employees are considered essential workers and must work without pay during the shutdown.

WEST HARRISON, NY — With the partial federal government shutdown in its fourth day, Westchester County Executive George Latimer visited Transportation Security Administration employees who work at the Westchester County Airport Wednesday.
The shutdown began at midnight Friday affecting about 800,000 federal workers.
President Donald Trump told House Republicans Thursday that he wouldn't sign a stopgap funding bill that the Senate passed.

The TSA employees are considered essential workers, so they are required to show up to their jobs and work without pay during a shutdown.
Latimer said it was unfortunate that TSA workers were being used as political pawns.

"I had a chance to speak with TSA workers at the Westchester County Airport, and they show great attention to detail to make sure we are safe," he said.
"They work hard for us, and I want them to know that Westchester County supports them," Latimer said. "County government can't do much in this situation, but we can be supportive, along with a thank you and a handshake."
He said the workers at the airport are being given food vouchers worth $15.
Latimer said that he had served at the state level of government when the budgets were late, meaning legislators didn't get paid.
He said he had to dip into his savings to make necessary monthly payments.
"On a human being level, people like these TSA worker who work for the federal government shouldn't have to suffer," Latimer said.
