League of Women Voters to Host Forum on Redistricting Proposition

The forum will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, in the White Plains Library.

Among the items on the ballot this November will be Proposal One, a proposal that if it passes would create an independent commission to address redistricting in New York State.

In September, the League of Women Voters of the Rivertowns will hold a forum to help explain the proposal, and below is their press release about that event. The forum is free and open to the public and will be held at the White Plains Library:

The League of Women Voters of the Rivertowns is pleased to co-sponsor a forum on an upcoming November ballot proposal to address redistricting in New York State. The forum, hosted by the White Plains League, will be held on Wednesday, September 10 at 7 pm at the White Plains Library.

Proposal One on the ballot for this year’s New York State general election addresses reforms to the process of redistricting legislative districts.

If Prop One passes, an independent redistricting commission will be established to determine lines for legislative and congressional districts.

Currently, the NYS Legislature is solely responsible for establishing these lines.

Sally Robinson, President of the League of Women Voters of New York State will be the featured speaker. Ms. Robinson will talk about why the NYS League of Women Voters supports this November Ballot Proposition.

The forum will be held on Wednesday, September 10, at 7pm at the White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Ave, White Plains, NY 10601 (914) 422-1400.

Co-sponsors of this event include the League of Women Voters of the Rivertowns, Scarsdale and Larchmont/Mamaroneck, and the White Plains Public Library.

The League encourages New Yorkers who have questions about Prop One, or who want to learn more about the issues, to attend.
