Middle School Students Unload 1000 Turkeys Donated By Stop & Shop
The turkeys were donated to the Food Bank for Westchester as part of Stop & Shop's Turkey Express program

Bob Yager, Senior Vice President of Stop & Shop Central Market is joined by students from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Elmsford and the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester, a Jewish Day School located in Hartsdale, who helped unload 1,000 Thanksgiving Turkeys that Stop & Shop donated to the Food Bank for Westchester.
Seventh and eighth grade students from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Elmsford and the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester, a Jewish Day School located in Hartsdale, teamed up to unload 1000 turkeys that Stop & Shop donated to the Food Bank for Westchester.
Stop & Shop’s Turkey Express program will deliver nearly 21,000 turkeys to hunger relief organizations in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island this holiday season.

The students of these faith based schools who are taught the importance of charity, caring for those in need and giving back to their community as part of their daily curriculum will put those tenets to practical use by helping the Food Bank provide to their food insecure neighbors across Westchester.
• Approximately 200,000 Westchester residents are at risk of hunger or facing food insecurity.

• 33% of those are children; there are 25,000 Westchester grade school children who receive free or reduced lunch. These children need food over the weekends and on vacations.
• 22% of Westchester residents who are at risk of hunger or facing food insecurity are senior citizens, and as our population gets grayer, we will see the numbers of hard to reach “seniors in need” increase.
• The Food Bank for Westchester serves 300 frontline programs and supplies 95% of all food distributed annually across the region’s food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and daycare and residential programs – delivering over 8.4 million pounds of food and 7 million meals to people.
Stop & Shop donates over $12 million in product and financial support to individual food banks. In addition to the Turkey Express program, Stop & Shop continues to fight hunger through the Food for Friends campaign, which will raise more than $1 million this year for more than 300 local hunger relief organizations.
