A new concert series called “Music of the Spirit” kicks off on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. with a performance of Requiem by Gabriel Fauré at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church.
The concert will feature a 30-member choir and 30-member orchestra gathered for the occasion that includes choral singers and players from St. Thomas Orchestra and Collegium Westchester, led respectively by Bernard Tamosaitis and Eric Kramer. Soloists for the Requiem will be soprano Kiri Parker and baritone Thomas Jamerson.
“This is the start of a music series that will touch the soul. Faure’s gorgeous Requiem is a classic for the Good Friday/Easter season. In the fall, we plan to present a work about the Holocaust, ‘Cantata for the Children of Terezin,’ by MaryAnn Joyce-Walter, at a local synagogue, in collaboration with the Music Conservatory of Westchester. In addition, Catholic churches have expressed interest in hosting Music of the Spirit programs,” said the series organizer, George Drapeau, board chair and violist with St. Thomas Orchestra.
