Today’s Coronavirus Update: 10/13/2020

Hello, this is White Plains Mayor Tom Roach calling with important information regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The most recent data provided by the county today indicates the cumulative number of people who have tested positive in White Plains since testing began is 2,019. The county estimates the number of active cases in White Plains to be 32. On a county wide basis cases are trending up, it’s up to all of us to turn that trend around. County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler, quoted in the Journal News today gave us the bottom line: if there’s no exposure there’s no disease. We must work together to reduce the risk of exposure. Wear your masks, wash your hands and maintain social distance. Basic instructions that have proven to be effective, now is not the time to let up. Our community’s commitment to reducing the spread brought us out of the lockdown. Where this goes next is up to us! NY State has launched a mobile contact tracing app that offers voluntary, anonymous exposure notification. If you download the free app Covid Alert NY on your smartphone, you will receive an alert if you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 if they are also registered with the program. The more people who download the Covid Alert NY app, the more effective it will be. Self quarantining immediately once you’ve been in close contact with someone who tests positive will help reduce the spread. More information on the program is available on the White Plains city website. The flu vaccine is here and I encourage everyone to get theirs as soon as possible. Keep in mind that higher than normal demand for the shot is expected. Our next call will be on Monday , October 19th. Until then remember, we are standing together by staying apart.
