Paint the Town Purple: White Plains Hospital Hosts Gynecologic Cancer Event

White Plains Hospital’s Dr. Michelle Castiello and Dr. Yael Zack are hosting an event on the evening of 9/20 called “Paint the Town Purple,” where the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge will be illuminated purple to raise awareness of Gynecologic Cancer. Guests will learn about the signs and symptoms of Gynecologic Cancer and New York State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin is expected to attend and deliver remarks at 6:30PM at the Sailhouse Restaurant, 238 Green Street in Tarrytown.

Dr. Castiello is a podiatrist at Scarsdale Medical Group and Dr. Zack is a Medical Oncologist and Hematologist at White Plains Hospital founded and leads the Young Women’s Program for Cancer Care. Donations made at the event or online will support the program.

Gynecologic Cancer: Know the Signs

Every five minutes, a woman in the United States is diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer. Early detection is key for successful treatment of gynecologic cancer. Symptoms can be different for everyone, but common symptoms can include:

• Abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge
• Loss of appetite or constantly feeling full, bloating
• Abdominal, back, or pelvic pain or pressure
• Frequent or urgent need to urinate and/or constipation
• Changes in vulva color or skin, such as a rash, sores, or warts (specific to vulvar cancer)
