With plenty of music, food and time-honored histories, students at Post Road Elementary School in the White Plains School District celebrated World Culture Day on Nov. 3.

Exciting activities were planned throughout the day giving students in kindergarten through fifth grade a taste of the history, music, dance and individual customs of many different countries.

The children had the opportunity to experience Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, New Zealand, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, as well as the Caribbean islands of Saint Martin and Turks & Caicos, in addition to the continent of Africa.

Rotating from classroom to classroom, students had fun listening to traditional stories, such as the legend of Cuchulainn, the mythical Irish hero; playing the games of different cultures; creating crafts and tasting international fare, among other activities.

There was also a Zumba session in the school gym at various times throughout the day.

Prior to the celebration, each student was asked to prepare a flag or paper doll representing a country from their own cultural heritage.

At the conclusion of the celebration, the entire school community came together to participate in a closing ceremony, with each child holding a flag, or other craft, representing a country they had learned about.
