Propel NY Energy Open Houses Held In Westchester County

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) and New York Transco are collaborating to advance Propel NY Energy (Propel NY), one of the most extensive electric transmission projects in nearly a half century. This innovative project proposed across parts of Long Island, New York City and Westchester County and will improve reliability, resiliency, and delivery of clean energy, including offshore wind, through electric grid improvements.

Prior to construction, which is expected to begin in mid-2026, the project is conducting a series of stakeholder and public engagement activities throughout the 90-mile route. This includes hosting seventeen Community Open Houses in locations along the route in May and June. These events offer an in-depth look at the project from the route to construction techniques to community outreach plans plus more, and provide an open and direct forum for community members to ask questions and share feedback.

Open Houses Off to A Good Start

The first Open Houses were held in Westchester County the week of May 6th: two in-person community open houses at Trinity St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in New Rochelle on May 2 and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Yonkers on May 7, and a virtual open house on Zoom on May 9, where the Westchester community got a firsthand look at the specifics of the project and how it will impact the local area. The information highlighted the next steps which include comprehensive permitting and regulatory reviews.
