Rick McCarthy Named CIO at White Plains Hospital

Health care is becoming increasingly driven by data that must be able to be securely stored and readily accessed to advance the care of patients. The executive team at White Plains Hospital is pleased to announce that Rick McCarthy has been named Chief Information Officer, as of July 30th.

In this role, Mr. McCarthy will oversee the effective use and application of all technology platforms that support workflow and quality patient care, as well as ensure system security and privacy throughout the organization.

“The management and security of digitized information across the healthcare landscape is vital to the success of an organization today,” said Jeffrey Tiesi, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, White Plains Hospital. “Rick’s experience in system security, privacy and operational continuity are a great addition to our team.”

McCarthy recently served as Chief Information Officer at Ascension Information Services for St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he oversaw the successful deployment of the CERNER system, which enables healthcare professionals to store, share and access patient information throughout the acute and ambulatory setting.

Prior to St. Vincent’s, McCarthy served as the Chief Information Officer at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia; and before that, as Chief Operating Officer of the NATO Role 3 Multi-National Medical Unit in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Earlier in his career, he held several other IT leadership positions with the United States Military and the Department of Defense.

McCarthy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Systems Management from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Science degree in Technology Management from the University of Maryland. He is a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, and the Connecticut Hospital Association CIO Council.
