Schleifer Campaign Takes Steps to Reduce Coronavirus Spread

Schleifer Launches Tele-Town Hall Series and Daily Voter "Office Hours" Following the Suspension of In-Person Campaigning In Race for NY-17

As announced last week, Adam Schleifer, Democratic candidate for Congress in New York’s 17th Congressional District, has instituted a series of campaign changes to help combat and slow the spread of COVID-19. Included in these changes was the suspension of all in-person campaigning activities and the institution of a work-from-home policy for all campaign staff. Consistent with those public-health and safety measures, and to continue its voter-outreach efforts, the Schleifer Campaign will begin hosting biweekly tele-town halls and daily “office hours” to continue empowering and engaging voters and to serve as a resource for any concerns they may have as we all adjust to these fast-changing circumstances.

“As Westchester and Rockland Counties, New York State, and the entire nation works to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, our campaign will suspend in-person campaign efforts and coordinate virtual opportunities to maintain a thoughtful, constructive dialogue with voters.” said Schleifer. “While we’ll miss the in-person energy and enthusiasm of our supporters and team members out on the campaign trail, we’re urging all of NY-17 to make the adjustments critical to the health of our community. Those adjustments include employing creative solutions like remote videoconferencing to stay interconnected and safe at the same time.”

Schleifer will begin holding biweekly tele-town halls on Thursday evenings at 6pm and Sunday afternoons at 2pm. Voters can also sign up for daily remote “office hours” and receive a call from Schleifer between 7 and 8pm. For more information and to To RSVP voters can sign up at the link here.

Schleifer’s campaign has gained increasing momentum over the last several months, with dozens of new volunteers knocking doors and hosting living room meetings throughout the district. In January, Schleifer’s campaign also announced that it had more than $1 million cash on hand, significantly outpacing opponents. Earlier this month, Schleifer announced the opening of a Peekskill office, in addition to an office in White Plains. It is the only campaign to have opened an office in the northern part of the district. The Schleifer Campaign anticipates the opening of its Rockland Office as soon as public-health circumstances allow.

A former-Assistant United States Attorney, Schleifer prosecuted major federal crimes including fraud, illegal gun possession, environmental crimes, sexual violence and intimidation, child pornography, and in the process took deadly and dangerous assault weapons and narcotic opioids of the streets.

Prior to serving in the Justice Department, Adam served as a Special Associate Counsel for the New York State Department of Financial Services, where he helped lead consumer-protection enforcement efforts against predatory payday and subprime auto lenders who were targeting minorities, veterans, and low-income New Yorkers, and took on fraud and abuse in the health insurance and financial markets. Schleifer’s successful efforts to root out unfair practices in New York and nationwide contributed to fairness, transparency, and efficiency in New York’s banking and insurance markets.

Schleifer, 38, graduated from Chappaqua’s public schools in 1999 and went on to attend Cornell University and Columbia University Law School, where he served as a Senior & Staff Development Editor on the Columbia Law Review. After graduating from law school, Schleifer served two years as a federal law clerk, first in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and then in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He and his wife, Nicole, are residents of New Castle.
