Spring Fundraiser at Woman's Club of White Plains

Annual Fashion Show and Luncheon Raises Money for Local Scholarships

The Woman’s Club of White Plains kicked off the spring season with its Annual Scholarship Luncheon & Fashion Show held at the CV Rich Mansion on Ridgeway on Saturday April 21. It was a beautiful day for the guests to enjoy the lovely clubhouse and grounds. As in the past, the luncheon raises money for scholarships for White Plains high school students. The awarding of scholarships to White Plains students dates back to the 1950’s and is one of the Woman’s Club most cherished traditions.

Two other important events took place at the luncheon as well. Assemblywoman Amy Paulin who has been a strong ally of the Woman’s Club and a strong advocate of woman’s rights was honored. County legislator Ben Boykin presented Ms. Paulin with a proclamation. Along with Mr. Boykin, the luncheon was also attended by State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins, County Executive George Latimer and White Plains Mayor Tom Roach.

The second annual Belle Knight Scholarship, named for the first president of the WCWP, was awarded to Kelly Marx who will be attending George Washington University in the fall. Ms. Marx spoke passionately about the need for involvement in the community. Last year’s winner, Abril Lopez Melendez who attends the University of Pennsylvania was also in attendance. Ms. Marx and Ms. Lopez Melendez were both excited and honored to meet with Assemblywoman Paulin.

Maryann Martin, president of the Woman’s Club of White Plains Foundation said, “We are very grateful to Ms. Paulin for her work for the Woman’s Club and service to the community.” She also commented that the Club received over 50 applications for scholarships this year and is grateful to all who attended the luncheon and supported these young women.

Lord & Taylor supplied the clothing and accessories featured at the luncheon. The models were members of the White Plains school district as well as the Woman’s Club. Ms. Paulin also graciously agreed to model for the show.
