Softball
In the 2nd of two games in Clermont, Florida on the 17th, Emily Frawley (White Plains '10) saw her first action for the New Paltz Hawks, as in the 3-2 loss to St. Thomas (Minn.).
She entered the game as a pinch runner, reached second base, and then, when the next batter lined a single to right field, she took off for home, and then, when the right fielder fired a bullet to the first sacker, who then threw a bulls eye to the catcher, Frawley was cut down at the plate.
The catcher then rifled a throw to the shortstop who was covering second base, who then tagged out the player who had singled, for an unusual 9-3-2-6 double play, there by ending what might have been a lucrative rally for her team.
On the 18th with Plymouth State (NH), New Paltz lost by a 4-3 score, with Frawley, in again as a pinch runner at 1st base, was sent all the way home by the 3rd base coach on a hit to the outfield, and again was nailed as she slid into home plate.
Through the first 6 games of the season, Lauren Bernstein (White Plains-Masters '08), left fielder for Skidmore, has started all of them, compiling a batting average of .286, with 5 runs batted in, 1 walk, fanned twice, stole a base in each of her 3 attempts, and had 3 put outs.
On the 14th, in a game at Kissimmee with Framingham State, a 5-0 loss, while in the 2nd game, in a 6-5 win over Centenary, Bernstein singled with the bases loaded, driving in 2 runs.
She batted 2-4, scored 1 run, and had 1 putout in the victory.
On the 15th, in a game with Roger Williams, she doubled, driving in her team's first run, as they won, 2-1.
