Softball
Junior outfielder Kim Angiolillo (White Plains-Good Counsel '09) of Manhattanville and her team opened the Florida schedule on the 10th at Clermont, playing Rochester in the a.m. matchup, and Westfield State in the afternoon.
The Valiants dropped the opener, as the Yellow Jacket pitcher allowed just 1 hit in the 9-1 loss, while in the night cap, a 9-4 setback by Westfield State, Angiolillo drove in a run with her sacrifice fly midway through the game.
On the 11th, in a game with powerful Washington of St. Louis, she had 1 of her team's 3 hits, fanned once, and made 1 putout and 1 error in right field, with the final score 17-0, Washington.
Splitting two on the 8th, and losing in the first game to Eastern, 4-0, Haverford took the nightcap from Southern Vermont, 10-0. In this one, Swarthmore junior Kate Smayda (White Plains '09) led off the bottom of the first, by singling, stole 2nd, and then scored the Garnets' first run. In the 5th, on a fielder's choice, she had a r.bi., a 7 run inning, she singled, driving in the team's 10th and final tally as the series ended down South.
It was a rough double header for St. Rose (2-9:0-2) and pitcher Lauren Sputo (White Plains '11), as they opened the conference play at Clermont Florida on the 10th with rival Stonehill.
The right hander was charged with the loss in each game, as she gave up 3 runs in 3 innings as they lost the first, 11-3. Then, hurling 6 innings in the night cap, a 5-1 loss, she surrendered 5 runs on 8 hits, walked 2, and had a game high in strikeouts as she fanned 5 batters.
