Virtual Forum to Empower Voters With Disabilities to be held March 15

Westchester Disabled On the Move, Inc. is working together with the League of Women Voters of Westchester County to sponsor REV UP!

Westchester County, NY – MARCH 2024 - Westchester Disabled On the Move, Inc. is working together with the League of Women Voters of Westchester County to co-host a statewide forum encouraging people with disabilities to vote.

The event, REV UP!, (Register, Educate, Vote, Use your Power), will be held on Thursday, March 14th at 7 PM, Eastern Standard Time, over Zoom. Interested parties can register here to participate.

Those who attend the nonpartisan virtual forum can expect to hear from the Board of Elections, engage in a panel discussion with experts, and receive information about voting in 2024 and the voting rights of people with disabilities.

“It’s important for people with disabilities to have all the information they need about registering to vote and the voting process in 2024,” says Maria Samuels, Executive Director of Westchester Disabled On the Move, Inc. “We want them to feel empowered to vote, so that they can support political candidates who will best represent their interests.”

Kathy Meany, President of the League of Women Voters of Westchester County, will moderate the event. She is also 2nd Vice President of the League of Women Voters of New York State, chairing the Voter Service Committee.

“As a nonpartisan, political organization, our mission as the League of Women Voters is to empower voters and defend democracy through education and advocacy. No vote, no voice. We hope that this forum will help people with disabilities to understand their rights and make it easier for all our citizens to participate," said Meany.

Speakers are:

Martin Cahill

Martin Cahill has spent more than 30 years working in medical revenue cycle operations before he stopped working due to vision loss in 2017. At that time, he joined the Westchester Chapter of the American Council of the Blind and has since been involved in many roles within the volunteer organization, at both local and state levels. Most recently, he has been advocating for independent and private voting capabilities for people with disabilities. Martin is originally from Ireland, and today lives in Westchester County with his wife and two college-age children.

Donna Drumm, Esq.

Donna Drumm, Esq. is an attorney and disability advocate who is the Principal of DRUMMAdvocacy, providing civil litigation consulting and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) advocacy. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Mercy College where she teaches Civil Litigation and Law Practice Management. Ms. Drumm is also a Board Member of Lifting Up Westchester, a nonprofit serving the homeless, disabled, and hungry in Westchester County.

Julia Solow

Julia Solow’s passion for organizing comes from a long legacy of organizing in her family, personal experiences of struggle and amazing mentors along her journey. She has been involved in grassroots organizing work ever since social work professors in college introduced her to immigrant rights leaders fighting for the DREAM Act in 2010. For the past five years, Julia has been one of the lead state-wide organizers on the Fair Pay for Home Care campaign. Julia has a Master’s degree in Social Work from CUNY Hunter College.
