Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Helping Neighbors; Parks

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities somewhere in the Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week Patch will be highlighting a volunteer opportunity — or two — in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

And if you are in an organization that has some need for volunteers, be sure to let us know by emailing michael.woyton@patch.com.

This week we are putting the spotlight on a couple of opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

The first volunteer opportunity this week is likely one that you can do right in your own neighborhood. In light of concern over the new coronavirus, if you know someone who is elderly or doesn't get out of their house easily, check on them.

People over 65 or those who have respiratory illnesses are especially vulnerable to COVID-19 and should avoid going out as much as possible, medical experts said.

Ask your neighbor if they need some food or medication picked up, any supplies restocked or even if they want some company.

And if you do go over to your neighbor's to help out, make sure you are not ill yourself and make certain you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.

Next, volunteers are needed to help Westchester Parks Foundation clear litter and debris from Willson's Woods Park. This will be a reoccurring cleanup throughout the season.

Volunteers should wear close-toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty.
