Vote In Westchester's Best Water Taste Test

The contest marks National Drinking Water Week.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Come to White Plains, sample water from around the county, and cast your vote for the best tasting water in Westchester. County Executive George Latimer will be sampling the waters at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8 and casting the first vote for the top tap water in the county, marking National Drinking Water Week.

The county Department of Health’s tap water contest will take place between 10 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. in front of the Michaelian Office Building, 148 Martine Ave. in White Plains. You will be able to sample all the waters and then cast your vote for whichever one you think is best.

The water supply with the most votes will be declared the winner, and will compete regionally. The rain date is Wednesday, May 9, same time and place.

“This tap water contest is a fun way to remind residents that the county health department works hard year-round to protect this important natural resource,” said Latimer. “Come cast your vote and meet some of the staff who work to assure the quality and safety of our water supply.”

The 11 water suppliers planning to compete are Bedford Consolidated Water District; Briarcliff Manor Water Supply; Cortlandt Consolidated Water District #1; Village of Elmsford Water District; Greenburgh Consolidated Water District#1; Mount Vernon Water Department; Northern Westchester Joint Water Works; City of Peekskill Water Department; Suez Water Westchester, Inc.; White Plains Water Supply and Yonkers Water Supply.

The county’s health department and the water suppliers sample the public waters routinely, and all contest participants meet all water quality standards.
