Westchester To Close Croton Gorge Park 2 Days A Week

Westchester County Executive George Latime also gave an update on the most recent coronavirus numbers.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The county is closing Croton Gorge Park in Cortlandt on Saturdays and Sunday through the July 4 weekend. Westchester County Executive George Latimer said Friday at his daily new conference that the park will remain open during the weekdays.

He said the volume of visitors has been difficult to manage on the weekends, necessitating the closure.

Croton Gorge Park is owned and operated by Westchester County. It consists of 97 acres at the base of New Croton Dam.

Coronavirus Update

Latimer said there were 69 newly confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in the county, bringing the total to date at 34,175.

The number of active cases — those who were infected and have resolved — continues to drop. As of Friday it is 826 active cases. There are 150 people who remain hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses.

In the county, 200,890 people have been tested for virus infection. Of those 17 percent tested positive and 83 percent tested negative. Latimer said that "fully 20 percent of the all county residents have been tested for the virus."

There were two more fatalities overnight, bringing the total number of people who have died to 1,402.
