Westchester County Executive Addresses Jewish Community
George Latimer draws crows of more than 200 to hear about direction of county
Westchester’s new county executive, George Latimer, spoke to more than 200 guests about the direction of the county at the Annual Westchester Government Relations Legislative Breakfast on Friday, March 16, 2018, at Temple Israel Center in White Plains. The breakfast was hosted by UJA-Federation of New York in Westchester and Westchester Jewish Council.
On January 1, 2018, George Latimer began his term as the ninth Westchester County Executive. Prior to his election, he served for six years in the New York State Senate, representing Westchester’s 37th District. A resident of Rye for nearly 30 years, George began his political career on the Rye City Council, which led to an election to the Westchester County Board of Legislators, where he served as chairman from 1998 to 2001.
With many local government officials in attendance and set against a backdrop of a changing political environment, Mr. Latimer shared perspectives about issues of importance to the Jewish community and the community at large. Guests also heard from U.S. Congressman Eliot Engel and U.S. Congresswoman Nita Lowey.
