Westchester Distributes Masks In Port Chester

The county executive gave his daily update on the new coronavirus during his news conference.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Westchester County Executive George Latimer was in Port Chester Wednesday for his daily news conference. He was joined by Port Chester Mayor Richard "Fritz" Falanka, village Trustee Joan Grangenois-Thomas, Village Manager Christopher Steers and community leaders from Bethesda Baptist Church, St. Frances A.M.E. Zion Church and Girtman Memorial Church of the Living God.

Latimer was there to deliver a donation of thousands of masks to the village on behalf of Hanes Brands Inc. and the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association.

"The county is working with all entities to make the reopening effort possible," he said. "We are here once again to deliver masks to help stop the spread."

Latimer said the masks will be distributed to numerous municipalities, civic and faith-based organizations throughout the county.


Coronavirus Update

Latimer said as of Wednesday there were 34,076 confirmed positive cases of the new coronavirus in Westchester County. That is up 41 from Tuesday.

So far 192,442 county residents have been tested for the virus, which is 19 percent of the population.

"There is much less spread of the virus as reported before," Latimer said, adding that the numbers continue to show the diminution of the spread.

The number of active cases — people who have been infected and not yet been cleared of the virus — is currently 890, which is down 38 from Tuesday.

There were 1,399 fatalities, three from overnight, Latimer said.

The county released an up-to-date map of the new coronavirus confirmed positive and active cases. It release the map for Monday which can be seen here.
