By Jeff Jacomowitz
100 year-old Martine Center resident Marjorie Spivey, a Norfolk, Virginia native who later moved to Brooklyn, is one of thirteen winners in the annual 2018 statewide competition, "Art from the Heart" by the New York State Health Facilities Association/New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSHFA/NYSCAL). Martine Center, on Tibbitts Avenue in White Plains, is a member of the Centers Health Care family, a continuum of 45 nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities, 36 of which are in New York State.

"We are all so proud of Marjorie," said Ms. Ruthy Fernandez, Recreation Director of the Martine Center. "Creating a painting like this at 100 years old really shows what talent she really has."

Every year, there are 13 winners and this year, there were 94 submissions provided by nursing home and assisted living residents across New York State. Also, a total of 60-member facilities participated in the program in 2018 and entries were received from every NYSHFA/NYSCAL district. Thirteen pieces of art were selected as winners and they will be featured in the 2019 Art From the Heart wall calendar.
