League of Women Voters of White Plains to hold a Candidates Forum on October 14th at the White Plains Public Library
The League of Women Voters of White Plains will hold its annual Candidates Forum on October 14th at 7pm at the White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Ave. This year the Forum is being co-sponsored by the White Plains Public Library, the White Plains Council of Neighborhood Associations and the White Plains/ Greenburgh NAACP.
The Forum will give attendees the opportunity to hear candidates for County Legislature and for Common Council present their perspectives on issues facing our White Plains community and will give audience members a chance to ask questions of candidates, submitted in writing, about our concerns. The election for Common Council is contested, with four candidates running for three seats. The candidates are: Milagros Lecuona, Dennis Krolian, Nadine Hunt-Robinson and AnneMarie Encarnacao. The County Legislator elections are uncontested. The candidates are: Benjamin Boykin 5th District and Alfreda Williams, 8th District.
Thomas Jefferson wrote that “an enlightened citizenry is indispensable for the proper functioning of a republic. Self-government is not possible unless the citizens are educated sufficiently to enable them to exercise oversight.” The purpose of the Forum is to do just that, educate citizens about local issues.
