It's always nice to go into the new calendar year with a a huge win and that is what the boys basketball squad did as it closed out 2011 in style.
In a big CHSAA contest, host Stepinac downed defending state CHSAA A champs St. Mary's of Manhasset 76-59 Dec. 30.

Stanner duo are scholars
Archbishop Stepinac not only has great football players, it also has kids on its team who get the job done in the classroom.
Two of those shining above the rest are Caleb Gilligan-Evans and Austin Taps, who were named to the “Golden Dozen” scholar-athlete team, which is recognized by the Westchester Chapter of the National Football Foundation.
The 30th annual-awards dinner that will honor them will take place on Jan. 26 at the Westchester Country Club.
So is White Plains' Avery
White Plains' Jeff Avery was also honored by the foundation as an honorable- mention selection.
