White Plains Fatherhood Olympics

A day to celebrate fathers, kids and families

The first annual Fatherhood Olympics was held Saturday at the Eastview Middle School in White Plains.  Organized by the White Plains Youth Bureau, the White Plains School District, the Peta Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Frank Williams, Edwin Scott, Backyard Sports, the YWCA and YMCA—the day was filled with heart-pumping games including tennis, soccer and kickball.

Under the umbrella of President Obama’s , which the City has modeled its program from, the day was created to inspire fathers to be directly and actively involved in their children’s lives.

“It is so important to have dads in the lives of families," said organizer Frank Williams to the friends and families who attended the Olympics. “It’s about our investing in our communities, our families and to help shape our nation."

Under bright sunny skies, dads and sons and moms and daughters all showed off their athletic prowess while having a lot of fun.  Included in the crowd today were White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach and his two sons Henry and Lawson.

The day ended with an awards ceremony with bronze, silver and gold medals presented to the deserving father/son teams.  Everyone received a participant certificate and a coupon to Dick's Sports, a Fatherhood Olympics supporter.
