White Plains Housing Authority Gets Federal Grant

It will be specifically used to conduct lead-based paint risk assessments, housing inspections and abatement measures in public housing.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The White Plains Housing Authority will be receiving $1 million in federal funding. Democratic New York Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced Friday that the funding will come from the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Lead-Based Paint Capital Fund program.

It will be specifically used to conduct lead-based paint risk assessments, housing inspections and long-term and temporary abatement measures in public housing.

Schumer said that lead poisoning is an irreversible, but preventable tragedy that robs too many children of their future.

"Forty years after the federal government banned the use of lead paint, it remains a danger to the children of the Hudson Valley, so we have to do everything possible to eliminate exposure to it," he said.

Gillibrand said that the investment in the White Plains Housing Authority will help identify and eliminate lead in the homes of some of the area's most vulnerable families.
