
WHITE PLAINS, NY — Officials had said the White Plains Walmart would close its doors Aug. 10, it turns out that wasn’t the case. The store closed a day earlier — on Thursday — than was anticipated.
Merchandise was marked down to 75 percent off, and some lucky customers got the last electronics, frozen food and bicycles, the Journal News said.
The store announced in July that it would be shuttering the downtown White Plains location, and would be working with the almost 400 employees to transfer them to other locations.

A Walmart spokesman said the mega-retailer will focus on larger stores, which it calls “supercenters.”
Now the only Walmart in Westchester is in Mohegan Lake, about 20 miles from the White Plains location.

There are closer stores that the one in Mohegan Lake — one in Suffern and another in Norwalk.
