White Plains Woman, 45, Pretended to be a Dentist: Cops

The suspect claimed she was trained in her home country of Albania.

A White Plains resident was arraigned in criminal court in the Bronx Thursday on charges that she impersonated a dentist at the practice she worked at as an office manager.

Valbona Yzeiraj is alleged to have pulled teeth and performed root canals and other procedures when the practice’s real dentist, Dr. Jeffrey Schoengold, was away. She was even referred to as “Doctor Val,” reports News 12 Westchester.

One of the patients Yzeiraj performed a root canal on suffered an infection following the procedure, according to The Journal News.

Authorities said the 45-year-old claimed to have been trained in dentistry in her home country of Albania, but she never received training or a license in New York. Schoengold fired Yzeiraj when he learned of her alleged dealings with patients, writes The Journal News.

Her charges include multiple counts of assault, reckless endangerment and unauthorized practice of a profession. Additionally, Yzeiraj allegedly tried to steal $20,000 from Schoengold after he dismissed her, according to prosecutors. She pleaded not guilty Thursday.
