The Woman's Club of White Plains awarded its annual scholarships to the largest group ever this year

The Woman’s Club of White Plains presented its annual scholarships to eighteen White Plains High School students at the Annual Spring Dinner. The students, accompanied by their families, were guests of the Club at the dinner. In this historic centennial year of the Woman’s Club, the eighteen students were the largest group ever to be awarded scholarships by the Woman’s Club. Seventeen of the winners who attended the dinner and their intended colleges included Camile Ramos SUNY Albany, Laura Prestipino Manhattanville, Marissa Grande SUNY Albany, Katherine Suqui University of Buffalo, Daniella Oria Boston College, Amanda Grant Georgetown, Jacqueline Rayo SUNY Purchase, Vanessa Acetuino Sacred Heart, Yu Wha Kim Binghamton, Amanda Collaboletta Manhattanville, Cardon Furry Villanova, Josephine Mercado, University of Vermont, Tatiana Mercurio Penn State, Madison Sacramone Savannah College of Arts and Design, Melanie Carlos SUNY Delhi, Kayla Bonnet SUNY Albany, Carolina Mattos Rochester Institute of Technology. Charlotte Mead was also awarded a scholarship.

The committee comprised of Ybelize Pilarte, Laurette Young, Claudio Melo and Laura Mastoloni evaluated a long list of outstanding candidates before selecting these young women. The diversity and quality of schools to which they have been accepted is a testimony to their hard work and dedication to furthering their educations.

Funds for the scholarships are raised primarily through the Fashion Show Scholarship Luncheon held every year. This year’s event was in April and honored “Women in Service”. Members of the WP Police Department, the White Plains School District and nurses from White Plains Hospital were the models this year. Fashions from Lord & Taylor and LOLA were on display. A silent auction was also held with prizes to please a variety of tastes. The event raised $15000 toward the scholarship fund, the most successful Fashion Show Scholarship Luncheon to date.
