Woman's Club to Hold Annual Fashion Show
Annual Fashion Show fundraiser for White Plains students taking place next month
On Saturday May 20th, the Woman's Club of White Plains will be hosting its annual Spring Fashion Show and Scholarship luncheon. For over 60 years, the Woman's Club of White Plains has been providing scholarships to White Plains students. The luncheon which begins at 11:30 will include a silent auction, fashion show and a seated luncheon. Tickets are available on the Club website www.womansclubofwhiteplains.org
These scholarships were originally awarded to nursing students at White Plains Hospital but now are being awarded to graduating seniors from White Plains. The scholarship committee has been busy evaluating the numerous applications for scholarships from the various students and will make their final selections it shortly. Committee member Laurette Young stated that this year's applicants were outstanding in many ways and the choice of who to award scholarships to was a difficult one. New this year will be the Belle Knight Scholarship, named after the first president of the Woman's Club. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has shown extraordinary involvement in community service in addition to academic prowess. The student recipients will be honored at a dinner at the Woman's Club in June.

The Fashion Show and Scholarship Luncheon is one of many events sponsored by the Woman's Club during the year. Coming off its centennial in 2016 with its 100 Acts of Kindness, the club is continuing its long tradition of charitable and philanthropic efforts. Other events this year have been the Winter Tea supporting Gail's House at Pace Law School and a new event Whiskey, Wine and Wings which supported a variety of charities through an organization known as One Hope Wine. This new event was sponsored by the Legacy Ladies of the Woman’s Club, a group of young women who have recently become members. There have also been activities such as Cooking for Grace Church and collections for Soles 4 Souls and the Hour Children Center at Bedford Correctional Facility as well.
