Woman's Club to Hold Gala of the Century
highlight event of the year long celebration of the centennial of the Woman's Club of White Plains
The Gala of the Century, the crowning event of the Centennial of the Woman’s Club of White Plains, will take place on Saturday November 5, 2016 at the CV Rich Mansion, home of the Woman’s Club since 1931.
Co-Presidents Cathy Schauber and Susan Doherty said, “As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, the members of the Woman’s Club of White Plains are inspired by the strong and dedicated women who came before us and continue to follow their example as we begin our next 100 years of commitment to our community”.
Several honorees will be recognized at the event. Mary Jane Goldman, CEO of PIP Printing in White Plains, will be the business honoree. An astute businesswoman, she is also a dedicated member of the Woman’s Club and a generous contributor to many local White Plains non-profits. The corporate honoree will be Ruth Mahoney who is president of the Capital Region New York Market for Key Bank. Ms. Mahoney has received numerous awards for her professional and community works including the Corporate Champion Award from the YWCA of White Plains. The final honoree and a beneficiary of the Gala is the YWCA with which the Woman’s Club has a long history. In the 1920’s, the Club began a program known as the Community Girls’ Works which in 1929 became the YWCA. For nearly 90 years, the Woman’s Club has been a strong supporter of the YWCA. Monies raised from the event will go to support the YWCA and the Woman’s Club of White Plains Foundation.

The Gala on November 5 is the largest fundraiser in a year-long program of activities to commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Woman’s Club of White Plains. The Club has an ongoing “100 Acts of Kindness “campaign which has surpassed its goal already. A Pancake Breakfast for Lifting Up Westchester was it’s most recent act. The “$100 by 100 Women for the 100th Year” drive also has exceeded its goal of 100 contributions by or in honor or memory of a woman. Still to come this year, a holiday boutique will be held in December to support a veteran’s group and toys will be collected for the WP Youth Bureau.
