Holiday Fundraiser Supports Hudson Valley Honor Flight

WOMAN’S CLUB OF WHITE PLAINS SUPPORTS VETERANS

Hudson Valley Honor Flight was the beneficiary of the Woman’s Club of White Plains Holiday Dinner and Boutique this year. The annual event, which is open to the public, features a buffet dinner and numerous vendors selling a variety of wares, perfect for holiday shopping.

Traditionally, a military or veteran’s group is chosen to receive a donation and the Club was honored to support Hudson Valley Honor Flight this year. Chet Edwards, board member of HVHF, was present with two other volunteers during the dinner to promote the organization and answer questions. Hudson Valley Honor Flight’s mission is to honor veterans from WWII, Korea and Vietnam by flying them to Washington DC to visit the memorials and Arlington National Cemetery. To date, they have made 21 flights.

In addition, a toy drive is held at the Boutique. This year the toys were donated to the White Plains Youth Bureau for distribution to needy families in White Plains. Previous recipients have included Toys for Tots and the Hour Children Center at Bedford Prison.

The Woman’s Club of White Plains is a diverse group of women with a shared sense of civic responsibility and a desire to give back to the community. Its mission is to enhance the lives of others by participating in and sponsoring volunteer, charitable and fund-raising activities as well as social, educational and networking opportunities.
