Woman's Club Plans Fashion Show Scholarship Luncheon
Annual Spring Fundraiser for WPHS student scholarships
You know spring is in the air when the Woman’s Club of White Plains is planning its Annual Fashion Show and Scholarship Luncheon. On Saturday April 21, the Club will hold its yearly event to support scholarships for White Plains students, a tradition which dates to the 1950’s. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 and includes a silent auction, fashion show and a seated luncheon. Tickets are available on the Club website www.womansclubofwhiteplains.or...
When the tradition began, scholarships were awarded to nursing students at White Plains Hospital. Currently the recipients are graduating seniors from White Plains who demonstrate academic promise, moral character and community service. The scholarship committee reviewed over fifty applications for scholarships from which it will select the winners. In addition, the Belle Knight Scholarship, named after the first president of the Woman's Club, will be given to a student with outstanding leadership skills and commitment to community. The recipients are honored at a dinner at the Woman's Club in May.
The Woman’s Club holds several fundraisers every year for a variety of causes. In addition to the Fashion Show and Scholarship Luncheon, last year the Club held the Winter Tea which benefitted WCJS Parent-Children Programs, a holiday boutique which supported the Play Group Theater, June Jazz and the fall fundraiser Corks and Forks which honored NAMI. Club members also participate annually in such as Cooking for Lifting Up Westchester, baking for Salvation Army Thanksgiving dinners and collections for Soles 4 Souls amongst others. Information for these other upcoming events will be available on the website www.womansclubofwhiteplains.org
