Woman's Club of White Plains Hosts 60th Annual Beaux Arts Show

The 60th annual Beaux Arts Show recently finished at the Woman’s Club of White Plains. One hundred forty five outstanding works of art in nine categories were on display, including many by artists new to the show this year. A trio of judges including Olga Topping – retired art teacher and artist, Penny Ventura, retired art teacher of WPPS, photographer, graphic and digital artist and Cornelia Seckel, founder and publisher of the ART TIMES, an online publication serving the cultural corridor of the Northeast viewed the show and voted on the winning pieces.

A reception was held on the final evening of the show. Guests admired the many different works of art and enjoyed the brilliant piano music of Aviva and Alyssa De Paolo, and Abigail Roman, students of the John Senakwami Music Institute in Harrison, NY. Sue Doherty, Woman’s Club co-president, welcomed the artists and members of the WP City Council and awards were presented by Barbara Dannenberg and Bonnie Ackerman.

The blue ribbon (first place) winners were Doris Mady (oils), Lynne Wesolawski (acrylics), Katherine Milliken (watercolor), Maria DeVita (pastels), Suzanne Babineau (graphics), Lynne Wesolawski (mixed media), Michael Washburn (photography) and Catherine Duskin (sculpture). The blue ribbon (first place) works of art will be entered in the Federation Beaux Arts Finale on July 5, 2017 at the Bronxville Woman’s Club.

This show at the Woman’s Club of White Plains was the second in a trio of art shows sponsored by the Westchester County Federation of Women’s Clubs. The next show of the consortium of arts shows will be at the Bronxville Woman’s Club from April 3-8, 2017. Further information can be obtained at http://www.wcfwc.org/beaux-arts.html.
