YMCA Teens Honored with 2026 Westchester County EcoAward for PUREbin Project
Local teens honored for leading innovative environmental action and inspiring a cleaner, healthier future for all.
Westchester County, NY (April 2026) — The YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester is proud to announce that three of its outstanding teen leaders—Francis Fokoue-Nkoutche, Charis Choi, and Nathan Beck—have been awarded the 2026 Westchester County EcoAward in recognition of their innovative PUREbin Project.
Presented at a ceremony held at Tibbetts Brook Park, the EcoAwards celebrate individuals, organizations, and municipalities that have made significant contributions to recycling, waste reduction, and environmental sustainability across Westchester County. This year’s honorees were selected for their impactful and forward-thinking eco-practices that serve as an inspiration to the broader community.
The PUREbin Project, a youth-led initiative supported by the YMCA and funded through the White Plains Youth Climate Action Fund, was developed to reduce pollution in the Bronx River while raising awareness about the importance of protecting local waterways. Through creativity, collaboration, and a strong sense of responsibility, these young leaders transformed their vision into a meaningful solution with real environmental impact.

“The work of Francis, Charis, and Nathan reflects the very best of what the YMCA stands for,” said Shannon Casey, Director of Teen & Camp Services. “Their initiative and desire to make a lasting impact demonstrates our core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in action—showing how young people can lead positive change in their communities.”
From launching the PUREbin to engaging with community members and local leaders, the team has inspired others to take an active role in environmental stewardship.
