Cyclist Dies After Being Hit By Drunk Driver During Brooklyn Bike Tour: NYPD

Nancy Pease died from her injuries after an intoxicated Abel Antonio Pina-Morocho hit her with his Dodge Caravan in September, police said.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — The bicyclist who was run over by a drunk driver during the NYC Century Bike Tour in Borough Park last month has died from her injuries, according to police.

Nancy Pease, 55, was struck by an intoxicated Abel Antonio Pina-Morocho at the corner of 12th Avenue near 39th Street during the event the morning of Sept. 10, said police.

Pina-Morocho, who said he had been drinking margaritas and Coors Lights before the accident, slammed his Dodge Caravan into Pease and four other people, according to police.

“Nancy was such an awesome human being,” wrote Pease's cousin Stephanie Soricelli Scocchera on Facebook. “Confident, adventurous, smart, and caring."

“She sadly passed on yesterday after dealing with the complications of a very horrific accident involving a drunk driver while she was doing one of the things she loved, cycling.”

Pease's funeral was held in Long Island City on Oct. 1 and family members asked donations be made to the FDNY Foundation, the Galapagos Conservancy, or the American Society for Deaf Children, friends wrote on Facebook.

Pina-Morocho, who had a blood alcohol level of .266, was charged with drunk driving, vehicular assault and driving without a license in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Sept. 11, according to prosecutors and court records.

Prosecutors said they will seek to update the charges against Pina-Morocho, who is being held on a $250,000 bail, now that Pease has died.
