Tanker Truck Kills Cyclist In Williamsburg Then Drives Off: Cops

A 25-year-old woman was found dead on Broadway after she was hit by a tanker truck Thursday night, police said.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — A tanker truck fatally struck a young woman cyclist on Broadway Thursday night then drove away, according to police.

The 25-year-old woman was unconscious when emergency responders found her lying in the street near Broadway and Rodney Street just after 11:30 p.m., said police.

The woman, later identified as Aurilla Lawrence, had been riding her bike eastbound on Broadway toward Rodney Street when she was struck by a grey or silver tanker truck traveling the same direction, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lawrence was originally from Kentucky, police records show.

The tanker continued to drive over the woman after it hit her and "effectively" fled the scene of the crash, police said.

There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
