High-End Brooklyn Restaurant Is Domino Sugar Factory Development's First Tenant
Mekelburg's, a Brooklyn sandwich shop that sells babka for $13, will share 325 Kent Ave. with tenants who make less than $22,000 a year.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — A ritzy restaurant that sells $13 babka will share a Domino Sugar Factory home with neighbors who earn less than $22,000 a year.
Mekelburg’s — a Clinton Hill shop that specializes in high-end baked goods, sandwiches and craft beer — is planning to open a new branch this winter at 325 Kent Ave., the first of five buildings to be developed at the Domino Sugar Factory site.
The same building made headlines in February when 87,000 people applied for 104 affordable housing units available to those making between $21,772 and $45,300 per year.

Mekelburg’s will operate out of a 4,000-square-foot retail space on the ground floor where it will offer craft beers, sandwiches, cheese boards, and baked goods, owners said. The move was first reported by DNAinfo.
The new building complex — which will include an 11-acre waterfront park, retail and office space and 2,800 apartments — is slated to open in 2018, according to developers Two Trees Management.

“The Domino Sugar Factory site will soon be a top 24/7 destination in Brooklyn,” said Mekelburg’s owner Alicia Mekelburg in a statement.
“We can’t wait to bring our favorite beers and bites to Domino and the surrounding Williamsburg community.”
Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story reported that Mekelburg's sells babka for $27, but this is is the price of the babka plus shipping fees. Babka costs $12.95 when bought in the shop.
