Hot Sauce Expo To Bring The Spice To Brooklyn

Get ready for a weekend of heat-inducing eating contests, a chihuahua beauty pageant and the chance to beat a Guinness World Record.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Prepare your tastebuds — hot sauce is coming to Brooklyn. The city's annual Hot Sauce Expo will be held at the Brooklyn Expo Center next month, complete with a chihuahua beauty pageant and the usual share of heat-inducing eating challenges.

The weekend NYC Hot Sauce Expo, in its seventh year, will be held at the Franklin Street expo center April 13 and 14. Spicy food enthusiasts are invited to try unlimited samples from over 50 artisanal craft hot sauce makers.

And, as always, a "Stage of DOOM" will be set up for a host of spicy food competitions, including a Guinness Book of World Records Carolina Reaper Pepper Eating Contest. Carolina Reaper is the hottest pepper on earth.

Daring eaters can also sign up for a High River Sauces Slaytanic Burrito Challenge, a Volcanic Peppers Spicy Pizza of DOOM Challenge or Culley's World Hottest Ramen Challenge.

There will also be an induction for the 2019 Hot Sauce Hall of Fame and an infused cocktail competition, which comes with a $5,000 prize for those who make it to the national championship.

The Guinness Book of World Records competition includes a $1,000 grand prize for breaking the record.

Tickets for the weekend of heat are $10 for general admission, $100 for VIP or $50 for a Lagunitas Craft Beer and BBQ platter. The expo will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day that weekend.
