Dogs Left Homeless By Hurricane Harvey Finding Homes In Brooklyn
The Brooklyn Animal Resources Coalition is raising money to bring about 30 homeless dogs to NYC for adoption and care.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn shelter is mounting a campaign to rescue the four-legged victims of Hurricane Harvey.
The Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition is working to provide homes in New York City for dogs who were left behind when Hurricane Harvey hit Texas on Aug. 25, according to the shelter’s YouCaring.com page.
“Over the past few days we have seen photos arise of dogs tied up, left in home, left in boats, and ultimately left behind to fend for themselves,” organizers wrote.

“We can never know how the people of Texas are feeling but we do know that NYC and all of its residents will STAND UP in honor of these animals.”
The shelter is hoping to raise $15,000 to cover travel expenses and medication costs for about 10 to 30 dogs, BARC representative Michelle Acosta told Patch in an email. The campaign has raised $5,080 by Friday afternoon.

The dogs will come from a shelter in Dalhart, a city in northern Texas, that BARC has worked with in the past.
Brooklynites can help the shelter by donating on their website or by adopting one of the homeless pups once they reach New York City.
BARC is known in the neighborhood for their celebrity clientele which includes “Girls” creator Lena Dunham — who engaged the shelter in a heated social media debate earlier this summer — and Olivia Wilde.
