Kosciuszko Bridge Will Be Defended By Wolves, Swords And Xena, Facebook Group Vows
"Supporters of the TRUE KOSCIUSZKO BRIDGE know that the TIME OF FIRE is upon us," organizers wrote. "We shall bring defeat to our enemies."

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — The Kosciuszko Bridge will be spared an explosive death by a vigilante group of wolves, swords and Xena Warrior Princess, if one Facebook group has its way.
“All you faithful supporters of the TRUE KOSCIUSZKO BRIDGE know that the TIME OF FIRE is upon us, and we must bring pain to our enemies and their allies,” organizer Brian Hersey wrote on Facebook.
“Together between the strength of WOLF AND IRON we shall bring defeat to our enemies, and the true KOSCIUSZKO BRIDGE shall stand for another day, and the imposter FALSE BRIDGE shall fall into the seas of Newtown for all eternity.

Hersey, 41, created the event page — bedecked with a photo of Xena, wolves and men with swords protecting the bridge from fire — because he felt bad that no one was taking the side of the bridge.
"Somebody needs to speak up for this old bridge,” Hersey told DNAinfo New York. “And that's what we’re doing."

Hersey may the first to choose to defend the bridge, but he is not the first to use its demolition as an excuse for an eccentric get-together — musician Danny Flam is trying to organize an orchestra to play Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture as the bridge explodes and Awesome Events NYC wants an 18,000-person party on site.
Almost 600 people had agreed to “Defend the Kosciuszko Bridge from Demo with Wolves & Swords” by Tuesday morning, and more than 1,400 people expressed that they were “interested” in defending the bridge but not yet ready to commit.
Several took to the comments section to express their very serious dedication to the cause.
“Let's protect it with every ounce of our being!” wrote Ryan Ginsburg. “Then after let's grow plants and stuff.”
“The Kosciuszko Bridge is a Venerable and Wise Old Crone,” added James Mullaney. “She'll Haunt them for this.”
"Xena," wrote Joe Merolla, "will be there."
Others had questions.
“Will there be coatcheck?” asked PJay Nyex.
“BYOB?” asked Raul Coto-Batres.
“Is there a per-person limit on wolves you can bring?” Asked Keith Kroms.
The Kosciuszko Bridge is slated to be demolished this summer and replaced by 2020 with a new structure to carry Brooklyn-bound traffic, pedestrians and bikers over Newton creek.
