Man Arrested For Violent Rape Attempt In Greenpoint, Police Say

Darryl Williams was charged with attempted rape and strangulation in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Sunday, court records show.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — The man who shoved his way into a Greenpoint woman’s home, attacked her and tried to rape her as been arrested, police said.

Darryl Williams, 25, has been charged with attempted rape, strangulation, sex abuse and other charges for forcing his way into the apartment on Meeker and Kingsland avenues at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Williams knocked on the door and told the 37-year-old woman he needed to speak to “Jeffrey,” but when she opened the door, he shoved her inside, pushed her into her bedroom and said he would stab her if she didn’t have sex with him, said police.

But the woman fought, police said.

She punched him in the groin and tried to run toward the door, but Williams tackled her, tried to rip off her dress and slammed a door shut on her head when she screamed, said police.

Williams fled the apartment and emergency responders arrived were summoned to the apartment to take the woman to Woodhull Hospital, police said.

She was treated for cuts on the back of her head, caused by the door, said police.

Williams, of Crown Heights, was arrested Saturday and arraigned on charges of attempted rape, strangulation, assault and burglary in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Sunday, according to police and city records.

Court records show Williams was held on a $75,000 bail.
