Michelle Obama's Favorite Workout Studio Is Coming To Brooklyn

The gym that the former first lady used while she was in the White House, and today, will open its first Brooklyn location in Williamsburg.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN —Brooklynites will soon have the chance to workout like a First Lady — former First Lady Michelle Obama, that is. The elite workout studio Obama is known to frequent both now and when she was at the White House will open its first Brooklyn location in Williamsburg this year.

The high-end studio Solidcore just signed a 10-year lease for a spot at the House No. 94 building on North Third Street, the building developers Hudson Companies announced. The 1,880-square-foot new gym will be the first in Brooklyn for Solidcore and its fourth outpost in the city.

“Solidcore is an asset to House No.94 and we predict it will be hugely popular with our residents, and others who live and work in the neighborhood. After all, who wouldn’t want to work out like Michelle Obama?” said Alison Novak, Principal at The Hudson Companies.

The DC-based fitness company's COO, Bryan Myers, said the North Third Street spot seemed like the perfect place to launch the brand in the borough. The studio is the latest addition to the new building, which opened last May and has since leased out nearly all of its spaces.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be joining the dynamic tenant lineup on North Third Street,” said Myers said. "We cannot wait to join the Williamsburg fitness community and show them what Solidcore is all about!”

Solidcore was founded by Anne Mahlum five years ago and has 41 studios throughout the country. It features a high-intensity, low impact, full-body workout that combines Pilates and strength training.

Since news broke that the former First Lady used the workout in the White House and at the DC gym, it has become a popular trend for fitness gurus and bloggers to try out and report back online.

Its safe to assume Williamsburg's health-conscious residents will be eager to get next in line.

“Williamsburg is bursting with a well-heeled, fitness-minded demographic,” said Mark Tergesen, of ABS Partners Real Estate, which represented Hudson in the lease. “...We’re seeing some of the highest-end fitness brands choosing this emerging area to tap the existing and incoming crowd of health-conscious consumers.”
