Report Of Gunman At Bedford Avenue L Stop Unfounded

Several people ran out of the Bedford Avenue stop after reports someone may have had a gun on the train.

WILLIAMSBURG, NY — Commuters ran out of the Bedford Avenue L train stop Saturday after a report of a possible gunman at the station that turned out to be unfounded.

The NYPD and the MTA confirmed that the report was unfounded. An NYPD spokesman told Patch there were no injuries and no danger to the public. The spokesman said there was some sort of disturbance at the station but nothing hazardous or dangerous was found.

The MTA responded to customers inquiring about the incident on Twitter to say there was no gunman found and no shots fired.

Commuters described running out of the train platform as people yelled "gun." One commuter, Tatiana Smith, told Patch she was waiting on the platform for about 50 seconds when she saw people running.

Smith said at first she stood there but people were yelling and pushing her out of the way. Along with people on the platform, passengers on the Brooklyn bound L train that arrived at the station also ran out while others ran in, Smith described.

She said she lost a shoe in the stampede and suffered a little cut on the back of her leg.

"People were really running for their lives," she said.

The MTA reported delays in L train service due to the incident. The MTA says L train service has since resumed.

Several people reported screaming and running out of the train station.
