NYPD Traffic Agent Convicted Of Fatal Williamsburg Bridge Crash

Stefan Hoyte was driving at 111 miles per hour before the fatal crash, which split his car and his passenger in half, said prosecutors

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — A drunk NYPD traffic agent who sped across the Williamsburg Bridge, rammed his car into a pillar and killed his 21-year-old passenger has been convicted of manslaughter, prosecutors said.

Stefan Hoyte, 26, pleaded guilty to killing Amanda Miner when he crashed his car on the Williamsburg Bridge on March 16 around 3 a.m., according to a statement from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

The off-duty NYPD traffic agent had been driving Miner and her boyfriend home from a Manhattan bar in his 2013 Infiniti G37, which he drove at 111 miles per hour, when he lost control of the car, said prosecutors.

Hoyte’s car — and Miner’s body — were split in two when they rammed into a pillar that divided the inner and outer roadways, said prosecutors.

Emergency responders rushed to the crash noted Hoyte appeared drunk and, when his blood was tested at an area hospital, he was found to have a blood alcohol level of .12, said prosecutors.

Hoyte pleaded guilty to manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter in New York State Supreme Court, where he is expected to be sentenced on Jan. 24, prosecutors said.

“This horrific crash in March was one that stood out to many seasoned collision investigators and first-responders as one of the worst they had ever encountered,” said District Attorney Cyrus Vance in a statement.

“Now, this defendant will face prison time for his deadly conduct.”

Patch was not immediately able to reach Hoyte’s attorney for comment.
