Sutherland Continues Expansion in the Northeast with Energy and Environmental Counsel Paul Freeman
Paul C. Freeman has joined Sutherland's Energy, Environmental and Commodities Practice Group as counsel in the New York office.

NEW YORK (March 28, 2016)—Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that Paul C. Freeman has joined the firm’s Energy, Environmental and Commodities Practice Group as counsel in the New York office. Prior to joining Sutherland, Mr. Freeman maintained a diverse practice as the principal of Freeman Law Group, LLC. His previous experience included serving as counsel at Dewey & LeBoeuf and working in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of General Counsel in Washington DC.
Mr. Freeman brings more than 17 years of diverse experience advising clients in the energy, aerospace and defense, and maritime industries on a range of issues, with a primary emphasis on matters involving compliance, risk management and litigation.
He routinely advises clients in response to investigations by, or inquiries from, a range of regulators, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Department of Defense Inspector General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and state attorneys general.

Extending his risk management and investigations practice across multiple industrial sectors, Mr. Freeman also counsels defense contractors on compliance with aspects of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), including the mandatory disclosure rule, and routinely conducts internal investigations involving supply chain risks, ethics, quality systems, contract compliance and potential false claims.

Additionally, Mr. Freeman represents fuel suppliers, commodities traders and other market participants in matters arising under the federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program, including the RFS Quality Assurance Program. His dynamic experience also includes advising on the siting, licensing and development of natural gas and hydroelectric generating facilities, as well as matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Sutherland’s Energy, Environmental and Commodities Practice Group includes more than 70 lawyers who represent clients that are active in the crude oil, natural gas, LNG, electric power, electric cooperative, renewable and alternative energy, oil pipeline and nuclear energy industries. The practice expanded internationally in March 2014 by combining with Arbis LLP in London and Geneva.
